Awards and Recognitions

The municipal infant-toddler centers and preschools of Reggio Emilia are internationally recognized and all aorund the world there are collaboration projects, schools or institutions linked to them; in many of these places "The Hundred Languages of Children" Exhibit has been touring for nearly twenty years.

Recently, on November 11th, 2004, the English newspaper The Guardian published an important article entitled "Lessons from Reggio Emila": "When a child is treated as an active participant in its own care, instead of an empty vessel,
it is given the strongest foundation for life"


- Newsweek magazine identified the "Diana" municipal preschool as the most avant-garde early childhood institution in the world.

Other important recongnitions followed immediately.

  • 1992 - Ygdrasil- Lego Prize (Denmark)
  • 1993 - The Kohl Foundation Award in Chicago (USA)
  • 1994 - H.C. Andersen International Prize
  • 1994 - Mediterranean Association of International Schools Recognition
  • 1995 - Department of Education Recognition, Ohio (USA)
  • 2000 - Klods Hans Prize 2000 (Denmark)
  • 2001 - Blois City Prize (France)
